1856: Formal Inception of postal service in Sultanate of Oman.
   
   1864: Inauguration of first post office
     
   1856-1947: During this period the postal service remained under Indian supervision.

   
   1947-1948: During this period the postal service remained under Pakistani supervision.
     
   1856-1966: Postal services were provided only through Muscat post office.
   
   1948-1966: Postal service work turned to Omani hands. However, the stamps used were British.
   1966: Postal service work turned to Omani hands and first set of Omani stamps were released
   
    1970: The postal service had a big leap with the beginning of the era of renaissance under the wise leadership of HM sultan Qaboos. A big achievement was opening of Salalah post office. This was followed by subsequent opening of a number of post offices in the following years covering all regions of the Sultanate. By the year 2000 the number of post offices reached to 94, providing all postal services. In addition to this there are 435 local postal agencies located in every nook and corner of the country.
