Organisation of Postal Suitcases

1.       Directorate General of Posts is authorised to accept private postal suitcases.

2.         Private postal suitcases can be accepted from clients signing an agreement in this regard with the Ministry. The concerned post office is intimated immediately upon signing of the agreement.

3.         Maximum weight of a postal suit case is 15 KGs. A client can send one postal suitcase per day against payment of monthly subscription fee of RO 25 per destination.

4.         Postal suitcases are accepted with following conditions:

a.      Should be in proper shape so that nothing can be pulled out from it.

b.      Should not be longer than 90 CMs.

c.      Should not contain illegal materials that are prohibited under laws of Oman and under terms of postal agreements.

d.      Should be addressed to only one addressee.

e.      Should not contain personal letters, costly items or cash.

f.      Should be closed in awareness of the sender. A tag mentioning name and address of both the sender and the addressee and date should be pasted on the postal suitcase.

5.         The subscriber shall pay in advance the subscription fees for each month.

6.         The postal suitcase shall be delivered at the source post office to be sent to the destination post office. A list should be submitted at least one hour in advance of the despatch time.

7.         The source post office shall stamp the tag and put the date on it. Verification on the basis of the list is done in order to tally with the Mail Way Bill or with the description statement.

8.         The target post office receives the postal suitcase after verifying its being in order. The postal suitcase is delivered to the addressee on the day of arrival and the addressee or his representative acknowledgement it by signing on the mail-way-bill or on the despatch statement.

9.         Both, the source post office and the target post office prepare daily statistics about postal suitcases sent, received and delivered.

10.       In case of loss or damage of a postal suitcase, the Ministry pays compensation equivalent to what is paid for parcels of 5 KG weight.
